This cartoon is one of six festive cards from Guardian cartoonist Kipper Williams to tweet, email and print out.
The scene is a turkey farm. One of the turkeys tells his worried-looking companions, "We're all in this together."
EXPLANATION
Roast turkey is the traditional dish for Christmas lunch or dinner in Britain and many other countries. This explains why the turkeys look so worried. However, "We're all in this together" is a catchprase coined by UK Chancellor George Osborne when calling for massive cuts to get the country out of the red at the 2009 Tory Party Conference. He most recently deployed the phrase during last Wednesday's Autumn Statement, when he announced that it would take several more years of austerity in the form of tax rises and spending cuts to heal Britain's ailing economy. The future looks bleak for both turkeys and the long-suffering British public.
