This cartoon by Mac from The Dail Mail relates to the UK government's plan to replace older prisons, which are expensive to run and maintain, with modern ones in a bid to save millions of pounds in the long term. Full story >>
Two prisoners (or 'inmates') are sitting in an old-fashioned prison cell (bunk beds, barred windows, slop bucket, etc.). One of the prisoners is consoling his cellmate, who is crying uncontrollably. The reason? He's spent twenty-five years building an escape tunnel, and has just learnt that the prison is to be closed (from the newspaper on the table).
A tissue (or paper hankie) is a piece of thin soft paper that you use to blow your nose or dry your eyes, etc. • Have you seen the box of tissues?
