This cartoon by Andy Davey from The Sun portrays UK Chancellor George Osborne as Adele, singing Skyfall at Sunday's Oscar awards ceremony. The original lyrics of the song have been changed to reflect the fall in the value of the pound since the UK's AAA credit rating was downgraded last week. The new lyrics also reference Osborne's oft-repeated "we're all in this together" catchphrase, by which he means that the burden of deficit reduction is being fairly shared (tell that to those on benefits!).

VOCABULARY
1. Free fall is a very fast and uncontrolled fall in the value of something. • The economy is in free fall.
2. When something crumbles it loses power, becomes weak, or fails. • Britain's crumbling credit rating could strain household budgets even further, as new figures show a pound worth just a third of its 1982 value.
COMMENT
Osborne looks more like Susan Boyle than Adele!
