This cartoon by Mac from The Daily Mail relates to news that an abattoir and a meat plant in Britain are being investigated in the latest twist to the horse meat scandal. Mac's cartoon shows the Royal Life Guards riding into Buckingham Palace in London after the Changing the Guard ceremony at Horse Guards Parade. However, the Guards' horses are missing. One of the watching tourists comments, "I believe the police are checking the local abattoirs". The suggestion is that the horses have slaughtered for use in burgers, kebabs, lasagne, etc., etc.
An abattoir is a place where animals are killed in order to provide meat. • Bosses at the Liverpool racecourse yesterday confirmed it has a deal with his abattoir to take away fatally injured horses who fall at fences.
