REPORTER: The horsemeat scandal in the U.K. continues as more than 50 elementary schools discover they were serving it to their kids for lunch. Officials say last week students in 51 schools across Lancashire County were served cottage pies that contain horsemeat. Parents received a letter alerting them of the incident. Their emotions ranged from indifferent to very upset.
MOTHER OF SCHOOL CHILD AT BOWERHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL: "Its awful. I wouldn't like to know that I have eaten horsemeat on my dinner plate when I thought it was like mince or something. So, no, I don't like that".
MOTHER OF SCHOOL CHILD AT BOWERHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL: "I think that is wrong. Its disgusting."
FATHER OF SCHOOL CHILD AT BOWERHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL: "Just surprised its happened, that's all but it is still meat at the end of the day. Is there that much difference between cow and horse meat?"
REPORTER: And that's the message some local government leaders are trying to reinforce ... it's not a matter of safety, but a matter of honesty. Late Friday authorities raided the Dinos and Sons Continental Foods meat plant who supply products to the catering industry who then sell it to schools, hospitals and pubs. Although selling horsemeat is not illegal in Britain, eating it virtually taboo.
