In this cartoon two EU border guards are contemplating the lifeless body of one of the drowned migrants, which has washed up on the shore. One tells the other, "He drowned before we could do anything to expel him."
The cartoonist is highlighting the failure of the EU's strict migration and refugee policy. As Deutsche Welle explains, "Every EU country has its own refugee and asylum policy. There is no common European stance. Most countries try to deter refugees as much as possible. That's why the countries that are most concerned by immigration, such as Italy and Greece, are largely left alone in dealing with the issue." Read more >>
