Catalans get into the Christmas spirit with ''poopers'' - the iconic ''caganer'' figurine littered among garlands, lights and nativities as part of the region's holiday traditions. Elly Park reports.
REPORTER: In the Spanish region of Catalonia, Christmas tradition has gone to the toilet. Here, the iconic "caganer" or the ''pooper" has been part of the nativity scene since the 17th century, showcasing extreme realism and believed to bring good fortune. But thanks to Marc Alos and his workshop, this Spanish tradition is finding its ways overseas, with famous poopers such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Barack Obama being steady sellers on the Christmas market.
CAGANER DESIGNER, MARC ALOS: "Thanks to creating international poopers, we have been able to expand this tradition not only to Catalan and Spanish homes, but also abroad."
REPORTER: The Catalan tradition is indeed a hit with international travelers such as Christina, who is from the U.S.
AMERICAN TOURIST, CRISTINA: "It's incredible. It's funny. I've never heard of it, and I think we should really start bringing it to America. It is a great tradition. Fertilisation? We should have that."
REPORTER: Besides politicians, the British royal family and even superheroes squat to help fertilize the new year.
To poop means to pass solid waste from the bowels (or, if you prefer, to do a number two). • The dog just pooped in the kitchen!
What you might call a pretty crappy report.
