François Hollande, considered the most unpopular president in post-war France, saw a one per cent bump in approval ratings in January in a poll taken after reports emerged he was having an affair with an actress. The cartoon by Chappatte from Le Temps, Geneva, shows President Hollande sitting at his desk in his office at the Elysée Palace. Note the motorcycle helmet on the hatstand and scooter key in his coat pocket - a reference to his scooter-borne nocturnal escapades. An aide, who has the latest polls in one hand and a letter with a kiss on it in the other, tells him, "9 out of 10 French don't believe in you any more. One French woman thinks you're cute and a genious."
I don't think the 'French woman' is Valérie Trierweiler!
1. Normally, you would say '9 out of 10 French people' since 'French' is one of those adjectives of nationality (unlike 'American') which is not used as a noun. See here for a list.
2. The correct spelling of 'genious' is 'genius'. However, the word 'ingenious' does have a 'u' in it.
