Hell, Michigan has been hit with freezing temperatures. Julie Noce reports.
REPORTER: It's so cold in the U.S. that hell has frozen over. Hell, Michigan, that is. Located about 15 miles northwest of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the rural community has, like most of the region, been hit with freezing temperatures. Just how cold is it here in Hell?
RESIDENT OF HELL, MICHIGAN, UNITED STATES, JIM HILLIAR: "Ugh I dunno. 30 below."
REPORTER: When people get stranded in conditions like these, even the rescuers need rescuing.
RESIDENT OF HELL, MICHIGAN, UNITED STATES, JIM HILLIAR: "Neighbor was kind of stuck up there, she called the snow plow last night and the snowplow got stuck. Well they called the tow truck, get the plow out."
REPORTER: In fact, for the 600 or so people who live in Hell, freezing temperatures are not all that strange. An early summer? Now that would be something. Maybe when pigs fly.
If you say that something will happen when hell freezes over, you mean that it will never happen (since it's very hot in hell). • "Will you go out with him?" "When Hell freezes over!" An idiom with a similar meaning is when pigs fly (which, of course, they never will). • "Do you think I could win the race?" "Sure ... when pigs fly."
Freeze is an irregular verb: freeze, froze, frozen.
