REPORTER: Madame Shiva is a soothsaying guinea pig of many wonders. Of the various cuddly animals whose forte is predicting World Cup winners, this furry friend chosen by NGO Swissaid, says her Swiss home country will win its first match. But her future telling powers aren't all too glamorous. She predicts the winning team with droppings.
MEMBER OF SWISSAID'S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE JON ANDREA FLORIN: "She is making a dropping either in the middle of the field, then it's draw, or on the swiss side then it's Swiss winning, or on the Hondurian, French or Ecuadorian side and then, it's the other part winning."
REPORTER: And for the Swiss team's first game against Ecuador -- where guinea pigs are a dish du jour -- Madame Shiva delivered her dropping to her home team. Only time will tell if she's right about where the goals will be delivered.
Soothsaying is the art or gift of prophecy (or the pretense of prophecy) by supernatural means.
The guinea pig got it right — but only just. Switzerland beat Ecuador 2-1 in their opening game with a goal in the final seconds.
