Newsela is a news website aimed primarily at schoolchildren in grades 3-12 in the USA, but like many such sites (Channel One News, for example), it's perfect for learners of English anywhere in the world. Multiple new articles are published in 8 categories (see screenshot above), and there's an archive of over 1000 articles which you can search by selecting topic, grade level, and reading standard. Many of the articles come with quizzes, which are designed to test deeper understanding of the text, not just the usual TOEIC-style comprehension questions. So far, so good, but the really neat thing about Newsela is that each article is presented at five different reading levels and lengths. This makes it perfect for mixed ability classes, since they can read the same content, but at a level that’s just right for each student. Teachers can also create classes and assign articles to them. Oh, and all this is free!
It's not always easy for teachers and learners of English to find interesting reading material at the right level, which is why Newsela is such a fantastic resource.
