Daryl Cagle's Professional Cartoonists Index has a collection of cartoons on the Italian cruise ship disaster, for which the ship's captain is being blamed. Several of the cartoonists use the accident as an excuse to comment on the political situation in the USA or in Europe. For example, in this cartoon from the Omaha World-Herald, Jeff Koterba portrays the disaster as a metaphor for the euro zone sovereign debt crisis, suggesting that, as with the shipwreck, 'human error' was to blame (i.e., politicians and EU policy makers).
