Today's cartoon by Brian Adcock from The Independent relates to Donald Trump's victory in the New York Republican primary.
THE CARTOON
The cartoon is a parody of the the King Kong movies at the end of which the eponymous giant ape climbs the Empire State Building in New York, and does battle with a swarm of planes (see pictures here). Trump is portrayed as King Kong and says, "Ooh! I can see the White House from up here", a reference to the fact that by winning in New York he has taken an important step towards becoming the Republican presidential candidate, and just possibly becoming the next president of the United States (now that is a scary prospect!)
COMMENT
It's interesting to compare the above cartoon with this one by American cartoonist Mark Streeter, which uses the same idea but illustrates an important difference between British and American editorial cartoons. In Britian, editorial cartoons tend to be more artistic and often resemble real works of art, whereas in the US, they tend to be cruder and more like sketches.
